“We’re delighted to broaden our offering in the large SUV segment with the arrival of a diesel alternative,” says Dinesh Chinnappa, General Manager LDV Automotive.
“At over 120,000 units per annum, the Large SUV segment is significant and dominated by diesels. Now, with a powerful new bi-turbo diesel offering, our 7-seat D90 family SUV offers even greater versatility for our target market.”
LDV D90 Engine and drivetrain
The new D20 diesel unit is SAIC’s first in-house designed engine, a 2.0-litre, bi-turbo four cylinder producing 160kW and 480Nm, making it one of the most powerful diesel engines in its class.
Its small block design and electronically controlled, high-pressure common rail technology, combined with an all-new 8-speed ZF gearbox, give it outstanding power delivery, efficiency and impressively low levels of NVH.
Importantly, underpinning the D90 is a ladder rail chassis which, when combined with the superior power and torque of the D20 bi-turbo diesel, enhances the vehicle’s recreational capabilities.
Factor in a 3-tonne towing capability, the tried and tested 8-speed ZF auto transmission, Borg Warner transfer case, respectable ground clearance and the ability to dial into a range of 4WD settings thanks to LDV’s unique Terrain Selection system, and you’re armed with a formidable weekend warrior.
LDV D90 Space
This new diesel engine easily powers one of the most spacious SUVs on the market today. When it comes to size, the D90 has one of the longest wheelbases and overall body lengths of its class.
This size on the outside translates into serious space on the inside: the D90 is one of the few 7-seat SUVs that can easily accommodate 7 adults with genuinely useable luggage space.
A massive 1,800 litres with all the rear seats down, 1,140 litres with the third row down, or an impressive 412 litres with all rows up and utilised.
Three kids, Mum, Dad and the dog – plus all their kit – will be cruising in comfort with the addition of dualzone climate control, Apple CarPlay and smartphone connectivity, multiple USB ports and, of course, those 7 full-size leather seats.
LDV D90 Features and Safety
The D90 is also one of the most recently awarded 5-star ANCAP safety rated large SUVs.
But that’s only part of the safety story. Features like Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, Front Collision Warning and Fatigue Reminder, the list goes on… All working together to keep you and your family safe.
LDV D90 Target Market
“Our target market is hard-working Australian families. Now, more than ever, they need value for money, but they also still demand safety, quality, features and performance,” concludes Chinnappa.
“With childcare costs, rising energy bills, inflation, static wage increases and worries about the future, the family purse is being squeezed. Hardworking Australian families can’t afford to be flippant or wasteful with money. The new LDV D90 bi-turbo diesel fits the bill perfectly.”
