Having previously reviewed the Defender 110 back in June 08 for AnyAuto (CLICK HERE FOR REVIEW) so we will focus on what is special about the SVX Defender.
Land Rover claim the SVX will become a collector’s item and it probably will. Land Rover Defender owners are a strange bunch. They love the anachronistic nature of the beast. The goodies added certainly make it more liveable and yet also serve to increase the frustration.
For example when was the last time you actually had to wind open the sun roof with a knob on the roof? Despite having very comfortable Recaro seats the driving ergonomics are atrocious and it is probably useless plugging your iPod in, as the sound deadening is shocking. But despite all this it has amazing loveable charm. We certainly count ourselves as lucky to have driven it.
The Land Rover Defender 60th Anniversary SVX Limited Edition boasts distinctive exterior design and interior features, Only 82 individually numbered Defender SVX’s will be sold in Australia, out of a total worldwide production of just 1,800 units, making the SVX a very rare and collectable version of Land Rover’s most iconic model.
Whilst the SVX still bears a strong visual resemblance to its 1948 predecessor, many of its features have not previously be seen in a Defender, satellite navigation, Recaro seats, leather steering wheel and iPod compatibility, just to name a few.
The Defender SVX was conceived to celebrate Land Rover’s 60th Anniversary, and in keeping with the Special Edition theme each vehicle comes with an individually numbered SVX plaque. In addition the SVX features satin black body wrap 60th decals, diamond turned five-spoke alloy wheels, tubular side-steps, reinforced aluminium front under shield, sunroof, heated seats, aluminium gear knob, and a Clarion audio system with sub woofer and amplifier
Naturally, the SVX is still an exceptional off road vehicle, offering the same breadth of capability as a standard Defender. The only difference is you can now travel into the outback with more style and luxury.
With a recommended retail price of just $63,320, the 7 seat Defender SVX represents exceptional value.”For those who want the ultimate Defender, the SVX special edition boasts an array of modern comforts and custom designed features, without compromising the vehicles go anywhere capabilities,” says Roger Jory, Land Rover Australia’s General Manager. “It’s the ideal way to celebrate Land Rover’s 60th birthday, and only 82 customers will be lucky enough to own a piece of history.”
