Modcon Campers have over 20 years’ experience in building quality campers through the owners Kerry and Phyllis.

This experience as well as moving market dynamics has led them to build the C3 Hybrid Camper. Hybrid campers are built on a Camper chassis but are more caravan like in style and function. The C3 Hybrid also builds on Modcon’s extensive off road experience.

Modcon Hybrid Camper Trailer Lifestyle, Caravan Comfort

The C3 Hybrid has the internal living and quick set up of a caravan, but the outdoor cooking and lifestyle feel of a camper trailer. That is the benefit of the hybrid style. Because it is shorter than a caravan and lighter it is more mobile and easier to tow, especially into those more remote destinations as well as the beach side caravan park.

Modcon Hybrid Internal features

One limitation of the smaller design is a smaller internal area, however the C3 Hybrid makes the most of what is available. It also promotes an indoor/outdoor style of touring.

Inside will accommodate four in relative comfort with a full size queen bed and two single beds, which convert into a couch by simply releasing two catches. Underneath the bottom bunk there is a huge storage area. For entertainment C3 comes with TV/DVD/ Radio/MP3 Player standard. There is optional air-conditioning as well.

Other storage areas include the rear and centre full width lockers, unique chemical toilet storage accessible from inside and out as well as an abundance of cubby holes. Internal area is increased with the one person operating clam shell roof

Modcon Hybrid Kitchen Facilities.

C3 Hybrid has an excellent slide out stainless steel kitchen with a three burner Thetford cook top, stainless steel sink, optional hot water tap as well as an optional fridge/freezer slide. Along the side is a fold out shelf that exposes a handy and well-designed pantry storage area for all the kitchen utensils and food items.

Modcon C3 Hybrid Bathroom facilities

We all know the feeling of remote camping and having a top and tail wet one wash. Not my idea of fun, sometimes necessary. Modcon, however doesn’t agree and offers a rear drop down Ensuite area that accommodates a shower, with optional hot water, as well as an area for use of the optional protaloo. Now for those who have used them, they can be handy, but I avoid them if I can.

Modcon C3 Hybrid Construction

In line with the quality philosophy of Modcon, the C3 has a full composite aluminium body, steel chassis and off road suspension as well as a swing around 270 degree awning. For all year comfort it is fully insulated with poly styrene.

Being a camper design the overall length is a compact 5.95m in length, 2.12m wide and 2.45m high with the optional air conditioning. The tare weight is 1700kg and the ATM is 2200kg with a ball weight of 179kg.

To enhance it’s off road credentials the chassis is hot dipped galvanised steel with the in-house Modcon off road suspension. Kerry is an engineer by trade and he makes excellent suspension. There is also an Ark heavy duty jockey wheel, polyblock off road coupling, 2 x 100 amp/h batteries, 2 x 100L water tanks.

Modcon C3 Hybrid Summary

Modcon has a long history of manufacturing quality off road camper trailers. Even though they have shifted their production off shore now they are still assembled here and the quality is overseen along the way to maintain their high standards.

The C3 is a quality addition to the hybrid section of the market and definitely worth a look especially as its priced from early $33,000 odd.
