The lure of touring Australia grows more attractive each year and with a Trakka motor home you have the flexibility to make your own decisions as to where you go and when you travel.
Once again proving its market leader status, Trakka has combined its expertise with Fiat’s popular Ducato range to create the ultimate homes away from home – the Torino Xtra, Trakkaway 730 and Trakkaway 850.
Trakka’s vehicles are the epitome of versatility and can be used for holidaying, commuting as well as a trip down to the local shops. With over 35 years of experience, Trakka has built up a reputation for style and quality and continues to push the boundaries of innovation and design. Proof is in the product itself with Trakka having emerged strongly from the recession, taking on new craftsmen to strengthen the brand and meet ever increasing demand.
Fiat’s Ducato is the ideal base for motorhomes with its excellent 3.0-litre diesel engine producing 115kW and a very respectable 400Nm of torque. To make your trip as comfortable as possible, the front wheel drive vehicle comes as standard with a six-speed automatic transmission.
As well as providing a really comfortable ride, the front wheel drive system of the Fiat means excellent handling and road holding because much of the weight of the engine and transmission is distributed over the front wheels. This is particularly valuable when driving over slippery surfaces as the weight distribution ensures additional grip is available from the front wheels.
Having front wheel drive also provides very significant benefits when it comes to making the best use of available space inside the motor home. Because the drive is through the front wheels the floor area throughout the rear section can be lower as it doesn’t have a rear driveshaft. And with a lower floor that means more interior room, increased spaciousness and easier access with only one step in place of the more common two steps.
With an overall vehicle length of just 6.4m the Torino Xtra provides plenty of space for weekends or even months away with all the comforts of home. There’s permanent seating for four as well as a fixed spacious double bed at the rear.
One of the great features is Trakka’s innovative Switch Mode Bathroom (SMB) consisting of a shower, chemical toilet, vanity basin as well as a shaving cabinet and mirror. In the SMB, the toilet is retracted when not required, making extra space when using the shower or basin. With the SMB you get all the ease of using a large bathroom without losing space by it encroaching on the living area.
For those on cooking duties, the stainless steel sink,3 burner stove and efficient fridge freezer are all encompassed in a stylish sweeping curved design that’s focussed on excellent ergonomics and usability. With ample room to walk around as well as sit and relax and entertain new friends, the Torino Xtra offers total versatility within its compact overall dimensions. It has also scooped top spot in the NRMA’s Australian Caravan + RV Magazine’ Campervan of the Year 2009
Longer trips away justify a move to the next level up in the range and that’s where the Trakkaway 730 offers much more to the seasoned traveller. Its 7.35m length can accommodate four travellers with ease and its interior layout combines the innovative SMB with Trakka’s Multifunction Bed System (MBS) at the rear and an enormous double bunk over the cab.
The MBS converts the incredibly spacious rear dining area into either one double or two single beds. Fit for a celebrity chef, the kitchen unit has three gas hobs, a stainless steel gas oven, a 17-litre microwave and a big fridge freezer as well as a slide-out pantry. All these features are fitted into a compact area that maintains plenty of space to move around while you create the gourmet meal. As with all of Trakka’s vehicles the front seats swivel round adjacent to the double lounge with a multi-position table allowing dining or other table-based activities for six.
For those on the permanent road to discovery and exploration the Trakkaway 850 is the vehicle that has it all. It truly leaves out none of your home comforts and sleeps a family of four with ease. Its 8.52m length offers separate bath and toilet units as well as a double bed at the rear with access from each side and a double bunk over the cab. The stylish kitchen separates the living and sleeping areas and comes with the same features as the Trakkaway 730. Hot and cold pressurised water and a fabulous stainless steel gas BBQ make a chef the perfect host for any event. Air conditioning and a reversing camera for easier parking are just some of the standard items that make the Trakkaway 850 the complete package.
